Commission on the Status of Women
Single Delegate
UNCSW
At the pinnacle of feminism and women's rights lies the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), the primary global intergovernmental body dedicated to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. Each of the participating 45 member states hold a unique responsibility to work together in setting global standards and formulating policies with respect to the multitude of challenges faced by females, and at the same time, monitor the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Most importantly, the council functions on a basis of consensus, and while they are unable to enact legally binding policies, the UNCSW and their work remains pivotal when it comes to global women empowerment.
Women's Underrepresenation in Sustainable Leadership
What happens when you mould gender inequality and climate change, two of the largest global socioeconomic issues, into one?
The result is a gordian knot; an amalgamation of century-long gender patriarchy, systemic inertia, and economic distress. Where women are disproportionally affected by the effects of climate change, they are underrepresented in positions of power, and despite much empirical evidence denoting the benefits of women's in sustainable leadership, little has been done to realise them.
Delegates, the call to feminism is more prominent than ever before. If you ever feel the roaring responsibility of combatting gender inequality in sustainable development, the UNCSW welcomes you with open arms.
