Dear Prospective Delegates and Teachers,

Warmest welcome to the 16th edition of NUS High’s Sustainable Development Youth Convention. I am very thankful that you have chosen to devote your precious time to our conference, and I cannot wait to prove to you how worthwhile it will all be.

What started off as a focus group discussion centred around environmental sustainability has now evolved into the full-fledged Model United Nations conference you see and hear about today. Our recent expansion of what sustainability should entail to include that of social and economic sustainability reflects an increasingly apparent need in our world to consider sustainability in whatever we do. 

Sustainability is not just a tokenistic buzzword. It is a principle that underlies everything we do here in SDYC. From the creatively conceived topics you will get to debate in a few weeks’ time, to the carefully curated delegate package which you will receive on your very first day here, we hope that you will gain a deeper appreciation for the world that has been given to us, and maybe start taking steps, no matter how small, to make our lifestyles just a little more sustainable.

From our beginner-friendly councils like UNDP, to our novel councils like F-AU, to our challenging councils like HUNSC, I assure you that you will find a council just right for you. Look forward to honing your research, writing and speaking skills here at SDYC and walk away with new friends and wonderful memories.
