HCC
18th-century Europe could hardly be described as unified. Wars and conflict are a seasonal matter and part of daily life. Yet, order is still maintained through a series of intricate checks and balances - the Great Power system. A pre-modern Council of Europe, it can be described, where countries and monarchs dance in a sea of ever shifting alliances, maintaining a delicate equilibrium.
As a member of the Historical Crisis Committee (HCC), whether it be through political intrigue or military dominance, your goal is to secure power for yourself and keep your enemies in check.
War of Spanish Succession
In a world of Kings and Emperors, what happens when one of them dies? What happens when they leave an empty throne with no clear heir to take their place?
Chaos, war and politics.
The Year is 1702, Charles II of Spain has been dead for barely 2 years and Europe is already on the brink of yet another continent spanning war. His hastily-modified will names Philip of Anjou – now Philip V – as his successor. Yet, another claimant related by blood, Archduke Charles of Austria, challenges this claim.
The prize? Spain and her globe-spanning colonies.
Everyone, from the Dutch to the English, and even pirates and minor lords, all want a piece of the pie. In a war of Great Powers, you determine the fate of Europe.
